Situation:
Advancement Project is a next generation, multi-racial civil rights organization. Their mission states that “Rooted in the great human rights struggles for equality and justice, we exist to fulfill America’s promise of a caring, inclusive, and just democracy. We use innovative tools and strategies to strengthen social movements and achieve high impact policy change.” The Advancement Project firm engaged Potomac Strategy to complete an overarching competitive landscaping and strategic planning initiative.
Our Role:
Engaging as strategic advisors, Potomac Strategy conducted an in-depth analysis of internal capabilities of Advancement Project and compared it to external environment the firm was operating in to develop a comprehensive package of competitive landscape and strategic plan. To facilitate the assessment, we adapted and modified a Social Sector Framework that looked cross mission, vison, core values, theory of change, and organization programs and resources. The landscaping approach included SWOT (strengths-weaknesses-threats-opportunities) analysis, external environment analysis, and assessment across financial & fundraising capabilities, partnerships, service delivery mechanisms, and organizational operations, positioning and communications.
Results:
We delivered a robust competitive landscaping and strategic plan package to Advancement Project’s CEO to enhance revenue and operational capabilities of the firm. The comprehensive package included a 3-year plan with goals, objectives, metrics, high-levels tactics, and implementation plan.
